본문내용
On April 20, 1999, the massacre at the Columbine High School shocked the world. Two students, Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold, killed 12 other students and 1 teacher before committing suicide. 8 years later, on April 16, 2007, A Korean-American student named Seung-Hui Cho killed 32 innocent lives in the campus of Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University. Like Harris and Klebold, he killed himself before he was arrested. Whenever these perpetrators appear, people cry out for the need of death penalty. They believe that the death penalty is the only way to prevent such horrible tragedies. Those who oppose the banning of capital punishment give such reasons as perfection of modern trial systems, effect of the penalty in reducing homicide rates, and expensiveness of lifetime imprisonment compared to the death penalty, to support their position. However, the capital punishment should be abolished because these evidences are not true.
