Introduction
• 정치 캠페인은 유권자의 사리사욕에 호소하는 막대한 금액을 소비하지만 합리 적인 사리사욕은 종종 투표 행위와의 약하고 불안정한 관계를 보여준다 (Kinder, 1998; Miller, 1999; Sears & Funk, 1991)
• 때로는 자신의 가치관이나 좋은 사회에 대한 비전에 투표하지만, 무엇이 좋은 사회를 만드는가에 대한 아이디어는 사회적으로 공유되지 않음 (Lakoff, 2004, Westen, 2007)
• Moral Foundations Hypothesis을 검토
• 진보주의자들은 두 가지 심리적 토대인 Harm / care와 Fairness / reciprocity Foundation에 기초하여 도덕적 체계를 구성
• 반면, 보수주의자는 5 가지 심리학적 기초인, Harm / care와 Fairness / reciprocity , Ingroup/loyalty, Authority/respect, Purity/sanctity Foundation 모두에 대해 보다 균등하게 도덕적 체계를 구성

• 단일 진보주의 보수주의 (또는 좌우) 연속선은 투표 행위에 대한 예측과 광범위한 문제에 대한 의견을 가늠할 수 있는 유용한 근사치(Jost, 2006)

• 인간의 본성과 인간의 완전성에 대해 낙관적 견해
• 경험에 개방되어 있으며, 개인적으로나 정치적으로 변화와 참신을 추구하는 경향(McCrae, 1996).
• 보수주의의 핵심 요소 “변화에 대한 저항”과 “불평등 수용”
• 인간의 본성은 이기적이고 불완전하다는 비관적 견해
• 익숙하고 안정적이며 예측 가능한 것들에 대한 선호(Jost, Nosek, & Gosling, 2008, McCrae, 1996)
• 사회 질서에 대한 위협에 대한 강한 감정적 민감성, 질서를 지키기 위해 자유를 제한
