교육이라는 것은 흔히 쓰이는 말이지만， 참 어려운 것 이다 학교가 아닌 환경에서 스스로 탐구하
도록 만드는 것은 더욱 그러하다 어린이박물관을 만들어 그곳이 아이 들에게 배움의 터가 되고 의
미 있는 시간을 제공하는 것은 정말 만만치 않은 일이다. 어린이 를 교육학적 시각에서 바라보면
“환경”은 “배움 (Learning) ，’을 가능하게 하는 원동력이다 그 반대의 경우 환경이 학습에 지장을
초래하기도 한다. 어린이박물관이 어린이의 눈높이에 맞추어진 공간으로 만들어져야 하는 이유도
바로 이런 점 에서 기인한다 교육적인 결과를 파생시키는 것은 많은 연구와 노력이 필요하지만，
비교육적인 결과를낳는것은 어렵게 않게 이루어진다
어린이박물관 뿐만 아니라 박물관의 관중 (Audience ) 은 눈으로 보는 관람 이외에 박물관이라는
환경을 경험하고 그것을 통한 배 움의 기회 를 갖고자 한다. 박물관 또한 어느 때보다 그 교육적 기
능을 강조하며， 관람객에게 교육적 기회를 제공하기 위하여 노력하고 있다 그렇다면 교육
(Educate) 은 무엇일까?

영어 초록

This study exarnines the way the children's museum developed into the child-centered and
education-oriented institution. Understanding museum from visitors' perspective and define their
needs are essential element, in addition to this, this paper concerned about origin and uniqueness
of children’s museums and Korean museum history. This Study includes general understanding of
children's museum; basic issues and concepts, and children’s museum education in Korea.
Ultimately the study seeks to bridge the gaps between Korean museum culture and visitor’s
educational needs.
ln October 1954, the National Kyongju Museum had offered an educational program for
children, Museum school, for school children ages 8-12, and adolescents. As apart of the National
Museum’s educational prograrns, young audiences have been served half century ago.
With the fifty years of child education history, The National Museum of Korea is planning to
open new children’s gallery for children and their families. Museum has experienced in popularity
over the last few decades within younger audience. As visitors with children have grown, there
has been stressed the educational role for children, museum have offered a wide range of
educational programs and exhibitions for the children.
Although the children programs of museum have been around for a long time, and history of
children’s museum is over hundreds years olds, the chilclren’s mllseum aspect in Korea is
relatively new. Children’s museum has the uniqueness such as child-centered, and inter-generation
learning while Korean museums are more focused on its collection and research.
How can we reduce the gaps between these museum-centered vs. child-centered museum’s way
of thinking? These questions are significant for us, important in our understanding of the museum experience of children. Recommending visitor studies emphasize on family, and finding the
origin from the Korean children’s education provides in the museums, will be the initiatives
The uniqueness of children’s museum provides educational benefits, the use of visual and
spatial reasoning. By leaming the techniques of conversation with farnily, visitors will be able to
maxirnize its educational benefit. Using a variety of museum’s collection for inter-generation
learning， visitors experience simple observation skiUs being transforrned into expanded museum
experience. πris inforrnallearning experience will provide a method to enhance cooperation and
interaction between different generations of family members.
