"국립민속박물관은 민속자료의 수집, 정리, 보존과 이를 바탕으로 한 전시, 그리고 조사연구
기능을 수행해 왔다. 또한 우리 민속에 대한 이해를 위해 1988년 ‘할머니․손녀 공예교실’ 교
육 프로그램을 시작으로 어린이․청소년․장애인․일반인․전문인․외국인 등 다양한 계층을
대상으로 생애주기별 맞춤형 박물관 교육 프로그램을 운영하였다.
초창기 국립민속박물관 교육의 목적은 ‘전통 문화에 대한 이해 증진과 바람직한 문화 보급
을 위한 문화 교육’ 으로, 우리 민속에 대한 올바른 인식과 공예품 제작과 체험 등을 통해 우
리 민속 문화를 확산하려는데 의도가 있었다. 1993년 본격적으로 박물관교육이 시작되었는데,
6개 교육의 9회 실시로 총 1, 274명이 참여하였던 교육은 이후 지난 20년간의 질적․양적인 성
장을 거쳐 2013년에는 82개 교육, 2, 014회, 총 153, 782명을 대상으로 프로그램을 기획하여 진
행할 예정이다.
이러한 국립민속박물관 교육의 지속적인 성장에는 중요한 배경이 존재한다.
① 박물관교육을 주요 업무로 하는 섭외교육과 신설과 교육 담당 인력확보
② 어린이와 가족 대상 교육의 활성화
③ 문화 다양성 이해를 통해 세계인과 공존할 수 있는 교육프로그램 개발
④ 교육의 목표와 방향성 제시
⑤ 박물관교육을 통한 지역문화 활성화 사업 진행
⑥ 교육강사 등록제(강사인력풀)를 통한 박물관교육의 질적 수준 향상
⑦ 교육의 질적 수준 향상을 위한 객관적 교육 평가 실시
국립민속박물관은 문화와 기술의 융합(Culture Technology), 교육과 오락의 융합(Edutainment),
세계 문화와 지역 문화의 융합(Glocalism), 자연과 박물관의 융합(Eco Museum)의 역할을 수행하
여 세계와 소통하는 창조적 문화 공간으로서의 박물관을 지향한다. 이와 더불어 국립민속박물
관 교육은 민속 문화의 이해와 확산을 위한 교육 발전소의 기능을 수행하여, 창조적 연구와
전시․교육을 통한 평생 학습의 장으로써의 박물관을 구현하고자 한다.
첫째, 박물관교육과 창의적 체험활동을 연계하여 창의 인재 양성을 위한 다양한 교육 활동
을 진행할 것이다. 교육 프로그램 개발․운영․관리․평가․보급 등의 유기적인 연계 시스템
을 구축하고 생애주기별 맞춤형 교육을 지향하여 평생교육기관으로서의 역할을 강화하고자
한다.
둘째, 장애인․저소득층․어린이병원학교의 장기 환아 대상의 문화 나눔 교육을 통해서 박
물관의 문턱을 낮추고 그들의 문화 향유권 확대를 위해 정진하고자 한다.
셋째, 지역 교육 기관과의 업무협약과 지역박물관에 대한 지원을 통해 지역 학생들의 박물
관교육 참여 기회를 확대한다.
넷째, 우리 사회의 문화 다양성을 박물관교육을 통해 사회발전의 원동력으로 전환하고자
한다."

영어 초록

"The functions of the National Folklore Museum are collection, organization and preservation of folklore
data and related exhibitions, research and study. Also, for better understanding of Korean customs, it
started an education program called ‘Grandmother and Granddaughter Craft Class’ in 1988. Since then, it
has been providing various museum education program by life cycle for different classes including children,
youth, handicapped, ordinary people, professionals and foreigners.
The early purpose of education programs provided by the National Folklore Museum was ‘culture
education for improved understanding of national cultures and desirable culture provision.’ It intended to
encourage good perception of Korean customs and to spread Korean folk culture through craftwork
production and experience. By 1993, museum education was provided in a full scale. 6 education programs
were held in 9 sessions to provide education to total 1, 274 persons. For 20 years since then, the education
grew in both in quality and quantity. In 2013, 82 education programs will be provided in 2014 sessions
to total 153, 782 persons.
Following important background factors are required for sustainable growth of education provided by the
National Folklore Museum.
① Newly organized of Culture Exchange Education Division and secured human resource who
handles education part
② Activation of education for children and family
③ Development of education programs that can be shared with citizens of the world based on
understanding diversity of culture
④ Suggesting goals and direction of the education
⑤ Performing local culture activation business through museum education
⑥ Improvement of museum education quality by education instructor registration system (instructor
manpower pool)
⑦ Objective education evaluation for quality improvement of the education
The National Folklore Museum performs roles of culture technology, edutainment, glocalism and eco
museum, and it pursues to become a creative culture space that communicates with the world. It also
plays the role of education development center for understanding and spreading of folklore culture. It aims
to become a lifelong study center that provide creative studies, exhibitions and education.
First, by connecting museum education and creative experience activities, various education activities will
be provided for cultivation of creative talents. By building organic connection system of development,
operation, management, evaluation, popularization and such of education programs and pursuing education
programs customized for different life cycles, its role as a lifelong education center will be reinforced.
Second, by providing culture sharing education for handicapped, low-income classes and long-term
children patients in children hospital schools, it will be open to more people. It will strive to enlarge their
rights to participate in cultural experiences.
Third, by working together with local education institutions and supporting local museums, it will
expand opportunity of local students to participate in museum education programs.
Fourth, through museum education, culture diversity in the Korean society will be turned into motive
power for society development."
