Rhythm is a phenomenon existing not only in all genres of art including dancing and music but also the surroundings of our everyday life. Thus it is exceedingly important to teach rhythm in dancing educaion. Because children obtain the sense of rhythm not only through their audition but also muscular motor sensation, rhythm education according to children's developmental becomes the base of elementary dancing educaion. Recogniziong the importance of teaching rhythm for effirient dancing educaion and purposing to improve children's sense of rhythm and to develop their creative expression abilities , this study reviewed rhythm learning theories of their creative expression abilities, this study reviewed rhythm learning theories of Dalcroze, Ofrr, Weikar, etc. and examined the goals and methods of elementary dancing instruction related to rhythm educaion. The conclusion of this study are as follows.First, Dalcroze'z theory of thythm learning said that the learners should moce while listening to rhythm using ' Eurthyythmics' and feel rhythm through the muscular motor sense while moving. That is, it insists that they should understand and internalize rhythm throush non-moving motions and mocing motions.
Second, Orff emphasized rhythm learning starting from speech. According to him. children first feel out rhythm in daily words such as their names and toys, and then improve their sense of rhythm through simple bodily motions such as hand clapping and lap salpping.
Third, Weikard explained that children bacome aware of beats as the first step of folk dance learning, express beats at the next step. and develop skills to adjust beats at the last step.
and said that children develop their ability of rhythm (sense of rhythm) thfough this sensse and skill.
What is more, the goals of dancing educaion at elementary school are clapping of finger-playing to basis rhythm elements for low-grade students .
making regular motions to music and partivipating in games and folk dance for intermediate-grade students ,and partivipatin in folk dance of expressing though body motions to the change of music for high grade students.
It is necessary to stimulate children'sinterst in dancing education by practicing the sense of rhythm and develop their bilities to express creatively using methods such as finger plays, rhythmic songs or game songs, folk dances and dramas through carious types of motion instruction for children.
