The objectives of this study consist in analysinf field trip programs in elementary school, manifesting their merits and demerits, and then making recommendable suggestions. To carry out for that purpose, first, an imquiry was made into what criteria is appropriate against field learning. Second, an analysis of field trip programs, was made based on the vriteria drawn out. Third, a reform measure of field trip programs is suggested.As a result of analysis, field trip learning programs in Korean elementary schools were found to be successfully implemented when seen from the perspective of the relations with safety, educaional values, and educaional courses. On the other hand, the demerits are as follow:
First, the number of leading teachers when working for field trip programs is considerably insufficient. Second, every school takes similar places as a place of field trip work, which is not characteristic of the regional or encironmental sepcificities. Third, It is nothing more than merely recording the results of what has been obsered. Fourth, It is not to be linkied to practical lesson and personality. Finally, posterior activities such as reporting the results to parents or presenting subjects are not implemented in the finalizing stage of a field frip program.
IOn the basis of the merits and demerits aforementioned, improvements in field trip programs were suggested, as follows: Firtst, it is needed in the process of learning to reduce children's burdenof safety, lead them to actively perform learning activities via concrete subjets, and then develop varies materials for that purpose. Second, The responsible persons for cultural sites, museums, and other organizaions where field trips are frequent are required to supplement their facilities so that children could have vafied experiences, Third, institutional procedures for field learning should be simplified.
Fourth, teachers' burden for leaking children should be diminished .And firth, more studies sholuld be conducted on field trip learning by teachers.
