Korean parents are famous for their high passion to their children`s education. It reflects the values of parenting in Korea. Korea has a small land and high population, and this environment causes keen competition in Korean society. Moreover, but only a few decades ago, we had very difficult time. These all conditions have contributed to form the values in parenting.
The basic idea of Korean parents who have underwent hard period is not to hand over the tragedy to their children. In this sense, the parents are devoted to their children to be grown as self-supportive individuals. They give their children as much supports as they can so that the children are able to survive in severe competition. They want to offer their children the best education, and finally they want their children to competent enough to support themselves and their future family. In other words, the basic goal of parents for their children is that they are thriving in their life.
