본문내용
A British Prime Minister has no status in law which puts him or her above other politicians. So why are modern British Prime Ministers so powerful?
There are three main reasons why British Prime Ministers are so powerful. They are the power of patronage, their public image and their knowledge about the government.
First, British Prime Ministers have the power of patronage. It seems to that the Queen appoints the people to important jobs in government. But, in practice, the appointment is performed by the Prime Minister. People just says, the Queen decides to appoint someone 'on the advice of the Prime Minister'. However, as everybody knows, the appointment is decided by the Prime Minister. That is, the Queen`s power has just symbolic meaning and the person who have the real power is the Prime Minister. And by this authority-the power of patronage-the Prime Minister have made the change of the cabinet frequently. It is known as the 'cabinet reshuffle'.
