1. What is autonomy?
The definition of autonomy “the ability to take charge of one’s own learning.” (Holec, 1981)
“the capacity to control one’s own learning” (Benson, 2001)
Autonomy can never be an all or nothing matter (Nunan, 1997).
There are degrees of autonomy, and autonomy may also take different forms.
→ Autonomy can be fostered, but not taught.
