본문내용
There are two digressions used in this section. A story of Beowulf's swimming match against Breca and about the relationship between the king Hrothgar and Beowulf's father. When Beowulf meets Hrothgar, he starts talking about his careers of wars and boasting how brave he is. In our society, boasting is not really considered as a virtue. However, in warrior society, boasting is not even negative and it is rather what you have to do in this society. Because warrior society is where the power controls everything and it is not a Christian society. That is why Beowulf feels no shame about boasting. Even though Beowulf boasts a lot, his words don't sound rude but persuasive and he actually seems a good communicator than Unferth.
