본문내용
Usually there are two types of characters in literary novels. One is a person who has the consistent character until end of a novel and the other is a person whose character is changed as a novel proceeds. The former is called ‘flat character’ and the latter is called ‘round character’. This explanation can be applied to the novel <The Great Gatsby> which also has several flat characters and round characters. It could be different which character is a flat character or a round character depending on each reader’s perspective but the most obvious round character is the narrator Nick Carraway. That’s because he directly shows the change of his attitude and thought while developing the story. So this essay will deal with the change of Nick’s personality with three timeslots; before meeting Gatsby, while meeting Gatsby and after the death of Gatsby.
At the beginning part of the novel Nick talked about one of his critical personalities which was that “I(Nick)’m inclined to reserve all judgments. (p5)”
