본문내용
Why people love a happy ending story? Because of feelings universal to human beings, we want to share our positive thoughts and emotions through music, arts, and literature. As humans, other emotions such as regret and sadness mean a great deal to us, and in “This Is What It Means to Say Phoenix, Arizona”, Sherman Alexie shows how true this idea is. In his story, he has implied his idea through Victor’s journey with Thomas Builds-the-Fire to collect Victor’s father’s ashes and bring him back from Arizona. During their journey, they make choices about who they are, especially who they are within their Native American identity. This essay explores how Alexie effectively catches the reader’s attention by emphasizing his characters’ optimistic struggle for adaptation in Native American culture through his use of metaphor, humor, and symbolism. By using these literary devices, Alexie keeps readers entertained and makes them want to keep reading.
