본문내용
Tobacco is a plant that grows natively in North and South America and it is in the same family as the potato, pepper and the poisonous nightshade, a very poisonous plant. The seed of a tobacco plant is very small and it is believed that tobacco began growing in the Americas about 6000 B.C. As early as 1 B.C., American Indians began using tobacco in many ways for the religious and medicine. Tobacco was used to dress wounds as well as a pain killer. Tobacco is cultivated similar to other plants. Seeds were at first quickly scattered onto the soil and this led to the attack from flea beetles which led to destruction of half the tobacco crops in US in 1876. It affected the tobacco industry greatly. By 1890, experiment was successful and farmers could grow tobacco without harm. These days, tobacco is sown in hotbeds and their germination is controlled by light. After they are mature enough, they are transplanted into the fields. Tobacco is cultivated annually and can be harvested in several ways
