The purpose of this experiment is to understand torsional vibrations by comparing theoretical values with values from the experiment for torsional eigenfrequency acting on a simple shaped rod.
Torsional vibration refers to the case where a rigid body rotates around a specific axis. In this case, the displacement is expressed as each coordinate, and the restoration moment is due to the torsion of the elastic member, or due to the unbalanced moment due to the force or external force.
Assuming that the axis is torsion by an external force, let's derive the relational expression for the deformation with the microelements of the axis.
If a small angular displacement occurs with respect to the small length of the axis, the shear strain r defined as the difference in angular displacement after and before deformation is as follows.
When an axis is loaded with a torsional moment, this axis obeys the elastic member, that is, the hook's law. Assuming that it is satisfied, the shear stress, occurring in the shaft in the relationship between stress and strain, is as follows.
