1. Explain Quadratura
- According to the Quadratura post, the term ‘quadratura’ in art describes a form of fantastic mural painting in which architectural features are painted on walls or ceilings to extend real architecture beyond the boundaries of real walls or ceilings into virtual spaces. Trompe-l'oeil is a French word meaning "eye trick," a painting technique that creates a three-dimensional illusion so that viewers can recognize flat paintings as if they were real objects. In particular, among the trompe-l'oeil techniques, quadratura is an optical illusion, as if paintings on walls and ceilings were real architectural elements. In other words, it refers to a work that was not actually designed or decorated, but it was drawn to create an illusion to look like it was built. This form of trompe-l'oeil painting was revived by the early Renaissance painter Andrea Mantegna in the late 15th century, and made a dramatic development during the Roman Baroque painting period in the 17th century.
