Introduction:
It is a known fact that every substance is composed of atoms. Within the substances, there also exist molecules, where same or different atoms are bonded chemically, and such bonds involve electrons. Each and every compound are consisted with different atoms and bonds, and this results in compounds having their unique vibrational, electronic and rotational energies. Energy states are said to be discrete, in other words, they are quantized. Hence, when a certain amount of energy is absorbed by the compound when exposed to electromagnetic radiation, the amount of energy absorbed by the compound denotes the difference in the energy states.
The quantitative value of the energy absorbed can be calculated through the equation shown below, where it shows the relationship between the frequency (v) and the wavelength (λ ) of the electromagnetic radiation.]
