IntroductionWith ‘the Treaty of Westphalia in 1648’, not only it could finally conclude a turbulent period under Thirty Years’ War in medieval Europe, but also officially defined the concept of sovereignty and a nation-state for the first time in the human history. Each nation-state could be changed to a legitimate entity, exert their sovereignty within their territory. Furthermore, this treaty defines that all signatories has the equal level of rights and obligations by the international law. Unlike this such system in Europe, there was another type of international system ongoing in East Asia accidently during the similar time period. It was more based on the hierarchical order in which ancient Chinese dynasty was located in the center of system, and its vassal states surrounded China in accordance with their level in the system.
