Punctuation Marks
Many students learning English or even those who use English as a native language used to make mistakes with punctuation. I also have been confused with it when writing papers even though I have learned how to punctuate, where I need to put comma, period, or semicolon and which punctuation is needed at certain point in a text. Punctuation has critical functions in writing because readers pause or comprehend sentences based on punctuation marks. Moreover, when we analyze or diagram English sentences using Kellogg-Reed style or other diagramming methods, it can be helpful to be familiar with punctuation because one can be informed well about the relationship between two or more words, phrases, or clauses by punctuation marks. There are several kinds of punctuation marks which students are likely to confuse the most with: comma, colon/semicolon, dash/hyphen.
First of all, comma is one of the most confusing factors in making grammatical errors. One of uses of comma is to separate two clauses especially when the sentence includes a coordinating conjunction(and, but, or, for, nor, so) positioned right after comma
