The Broken Commandment is a famous Japanese novel written by Shimazaki Toson which is regarded as a representative works of Japanese naturalistic literature. The novel mainly depicts the burakumin discrimination through the unfortunate fate of the hero Ushimatsu, who is a burakumin and struggles with a commandment given to him by his father. This paper attempts to analyze sin-consciousness in The Broken Commandment and discrimination in the modern society through the Christian perspective by Ushimatsu psychological changes. With this, this paper compares the relationship between the burakumin and original sin, as well as the struggle with confessions and that of body and soul.
