The Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (North Korea) was formed in 1948 after World War II (Wertz & Gannon, 2015). This totalitarian state is only ruled by the Worker’s Party. Unlike previous totalitarian states such as Nazi Germany, where the leaders were elected, North Korea is ruled by the succession of power of the Kim family guided by the Juche ideology of the worker’s party (Sawe, 2017). Although North Korea is an atheist state, Jucheism (Juche ideology), also known as self-reliance, is used as North Korea’s official political religion (Kim, 2004). This ideology was founded by Kim Il Sung and therefore, he is given a god-like status.

The investigation will measure the effectiveness of the use of Jucheism as a political religion and the primary curriculum in consolidating loyalty to the regime. The use of these factors has a global significance because of North Korea’s nuclear experiments that are threatening international security.
