2차 세계대전 이후 네오리얼리즘의 이상을 발전시키고 예술적으로 이 바지한 루키노 비스콘티는 문학이 영화제작에서 어떤 역할을 하는지 실험 하였던 문학의 해석자였다. 이 논문에서는 단순히 문학이 영화화되었다는 것으로 한정 짓는 것이 아니라, 이데올로기 차원에서 접근하고자 한다. 이 러한 접근의 당위성은 비스콘티가 소설을 보는 입장이 인간 문화의 창의 적인 형태로 본 것이고, 단지 영화라는 형태로 변경한 것이기 때문이다. 네 오리얼리즘운동이 단지 현실을 보여주는 것이 아니라 재구성한다는 원칙에 의한다면 비스콘티의 작품은 더욱 적당하다. 현실을 재구성한다는 것은 현실을 더욱 진실하고 생동감 있게 나타나도록 하는 것이기 때문이다.

영어 초록

Luchino Visconti, who developed the idea of neo-realism and contributed to the art after the Second World War was an interpreter of literature who experimented on the roles of literature on film production. In this dissertation, I do not intend to limit that literature was simply cinematized, but I would like to approach in the dimension of ideology. Such approach came from the understanding that Visconti's stance of novels was to see them as creative forms of human culture, and that the novels are changed into forms of films. Pursuant to the principle that neo-realism is not to show reality but to reform, Visconti's work is even more suitable to the idea of neo-realism since reformation of reality is to make reality shown as more truthful and full of life. The original author of , Boito, showed the division of loyalty towards Italy, and explicitly revealed that the representation of Italian people's lives is not patriotism but opportunism. Through such background, Visconti produced a film in 1954 that showed the general traits of defection and betrayal among people who form a nation and a society. By defining as a melodrama or a cinematic realist film, the essence of this film would be damaged. This is because played a role of passage from neo-realism to realism, and emphasized the lyrical and spectacular characters in a stance to return to realism. In addition, also executed a duty of interpreter that contributed to the change of artistic language and tradition to another type of language and tradition, as mentioned by Gramsci. This meant that not only should the interpreter have critical knowledge of two cultures and civilizations but also help understand the cultures and civilizations using proper language.
