본고에서는 영동지역에서 발굴조사된 점토대토기 출토 유적의 입지와 분포, 주거지 구조, 출토유물의 양상을 분석하여 취락의 구조를 살펴보고, 이를 통해 영동지역 원형점토대토기문화의 전개과정을 고찰해 보았다. 영동지역 점토대토기 단계 취락은 하천이나 호수 주변의 낮은 구릉에 입지하는 구릉성 취락과 호수나 하천에서 멀리 떨어져 독립적인 구릉에 입지하는 고지성 취락으로 구분된다. 주거지의 형태는 말각 방형, 방형 등의 방형계가 다수를 차지하고, 입암동 취락과 초도리 취락, 송현리 B 취락 등에서는 장방형, 말각장방형의 주거지가 확인되었고, 동해 지흥동유적에서는 원형주거지가 확인되었다. 주거지의 배치는 대부분 지형상의 이유로 능선상에 동심원상 및 열상으로 배치되고 있다. 영동지역에서는 원형점토대토기단계 취락만이 확인되고 있고, 원형점토대토기 취락의 방사성탄소 측정연대 측정결과 중복된 중심연대가 대체적으로 기원전 6세기에서 5세기 후반으로 집중되고 있고, 다른 지역과는 달리 철기가 공반되지 않는다. 따라서 주거지의 중복관계에 따른 점토대토기 변화양상에 대한 검토를 통해 영동지역 점토대토기 전개양상을 3기로 구분하였다. 송현리 취락과 방동리 취락에서는 주거지, 소성유구, 수혈유구, 저장유구, 환호, 분묘등이 함께 조사되어 원형점토대토기단계의 취락구조와 확대양상을 파악할 수 있었고, 주거지의 중복양상 및 장방형 주거지의 존재, 점토대토기와 함께 공열토기와 외반구연호(직립구연, 외반구연), 적색마연토기와 같이 공반 출토되는 점으로 보아 토착세력과의 접촉과 교류를 통해서 定住聚落의 형태로 공존하는 양상을 보이고 있다.

영어 초록

This study looks into the locations, distribution patterns and residential area structure of theRoll-rimmed Pottery remains unearthed in Yongdong area, analyzes their various aspects tounderstand the settlement structure, and finally contemplates the developments of the Roll-rimmed Pottery Culture. Settlements at the time of Roll-rimmed Pottery in Yongdong area can be divided into two cate-gories: hilly settlements that were located on low-lying hills near rivers or lakes and highland set-tlements that were formed on remote and isolated hills away from rivers or lakes. Settlementshapes were mostly square types such as Malgak (smooth around the edges) square and a regu-lar square. Found in settlements of Ibam-dong, Chodo-ri and Songhyun-ri B were rectangles andMalgak rectangles while round-shaped settlements were discovered at the historic sites inJiheung-dong, Donghae. They were distributed in concentric circles or rows mostly due to topo-graphical conditions. In Yongdong area, only Roll-rimmed Pottery-stage settlements were found. A radiocarbon dat-ing on them revealed that their overlapping periods centered around from B.C. 6th century to thelate 5th century. Unlike other areas, no iron-ware was discovered along with the Roll-rimmedPottery in this area. Changing patterns of the Roll-rimmed Pottery, which were considered basedon the overlapping relations of settlements, were analyzed and, as a result, developments of Roll-rimmed Pottery in Yongdong area were categorized into three stages. In settlements in Songhyeon-ri and Bangdong-ri, dwelling sites, storage pit-type remains, small-pit type remains, pottery firing ovens, tombs and ditch enclosures were unearthed along with theRoll-rimmed Pottery, which helped to understand its settlement structure and spreading patterns.The information concerning overlapping patterns of settlements and the existence of rectanglesettlements, and the fact that rim-perforated pottery, pots with outward mouths (vertical type andoutward type) and red burnished pottery were found along with the Roll-rimmed Pottery tell usthat people back then formed residential settlements through contact and exchanges with indige-nous powers.
