한국어 초록

이 논문은 헤겔의 자연관과 인간관을 고찰함으로써 헤겔철학이 진화론적
인 사고와 공유하고 있는 점이 무엇이며 동시에 진화론이 설명하지 못하는 동물과
인간의 근원적인 차이를 어떻게 밝히고 있는지를 고찰하는 데에 그 목적을 두고
있다. 다윈은 진화론의 핵심 개념인 자연선택 개념을 통해 인간의 고유한 특성과
도덕성을 동물적 특성에서 도출한다. 사회생물학자들과 진화생물학자들은 다윈의
이론을 포괄적 적응도, 이타주의 그리고 호혜주의 이론으로 확장하여 윤리학의 기
원이 동물의 집단선택에서부터 비롯되었음을 주장한다. 헤겔에 따르면 인간은 자연
적이면서도 동시에 정신적인 본질을 지닌다. 이는 인간이 자연성을 갖고 있으면서,
자신의 자연성을 초월할 수 있는 이중적 존재임을 의미한다. 이러한 초월적 본성은
인간의 고유한 본질인 정신, 자유 그리고 행위에 놓여 있다. 인간은 실천적 행위를
통해 자신만의 고유한 이념적 세계인 문화, 법, 예술, 철학, 종교 등을 형성해 나갈
수 있다. 헤겔은 인간이 형성해 나가는 이념적이고 상호주관적인 세계가 동물들의
세계와 질적으로 다르다고 강조한다. 동물들의 세계는 자연선택의 결과로 얻어진
세계인 반면 인간의 세계는 역사성과 자유에 의해 근거지어진 세계이다. 이러한 관
점에서 볼 때 인간은 이념, 더 자세히 말해 과학적 환원주의이론이 설명할 수 없는
자유이념을 반영하는 존재이다.

영어 초록

The purpose of this study is to investigate Hegel's understanding on nature
and man in Hegel's speculative philosophy. Our investigation especially focuses
on the problem of to what extent Hegel's view has a common ground with
evolutionary thinking and at the same time differs from it in respect to the
clarification of the fundamental difference between animals and humans, which
cannot be well explained by pure evolutionist theory. Charles Darwin proposed
his core mechanism, "the theory of natural selection", and based on this theory,
he insisted that human characteristics and morality were derived from
animalistic nature. This theory of Darwinian evolution has been extended to a
special form of inclusive fitness altruism and reciprocal altruism by the work of
sociobiologists and evolutionary biologists. According to the evolutionary
biologists, the society of man and animal is based on the group selection
resulted from the same evolutionary process, so they argue that the origin of
ethics is derived from the group selection of animal. In contrast to this, Hegel,
on the one hand, presupposes the evolutionary thinking and on the other hand
explains his conception of human nature from another perspective. According to
Hegel human being is not only natural, but also spiritual in her/his essence.
Human is endowed originally with the naturalness and also at the same time
transcends it. In Hegel's view this transcending feature is due to the essential
characteristics of human being, notably spirit, freedom, and action. By practical
action man can establish her/his own peculiar world of the Idea, which is
embodied in culture, right/law, art, philosophy, and religion. Hegel emphatically
argues that this ideal and intersubjective world of man is qualitatively different
from the world of animals. He seeks to explain the peculiar characteristic of
the community of man in a way that it is based on the Idea that has the
spiritual dimension. According to Hegel, while the community of animal derived
from the group selection is grounded in the natural community, the community
of man is bound up with its historicity and freedom. In this respect man
mirrors the Idea, more precisely the Idea of freedom, which cannot be
explained by the scientific reductionism.
