한국어 초록

하서 김인후가 살았던 16세기는 조선초기 사화의 여파가 채 가시기
전이어서 도학정치를 펼 수 있는 상황이 되지 못하였다. 그는 개인적으
로 인종이 세자로 있을 때 교육을 맡아 인연을 맺었으나 인종이 급서하
는 바람에 심적 고통을 겪고 벼슬길에 나가지 않았다. 그후의 정치적
상황도 여전히 척족정치로 인하여 당쟁이 이어져 도학정치에 대한 희망
을 포기하고 낙향하였다. 그는 타고난 자질이 문학에 뛰어나 많은 시문
을 남겼으나, 성리학에 관한 것은 거의 없고, 단편적인 것 뿐이다. 그러
나 당시 호남지역에서 고봉 기대승, 일재 이항 등과 학문적 교류를 하
면서 영향을 끼친 것으로 추측된다. 그는 수학 초기부터 소학을 중요
시하여 조선초기 도학 개창기의 정암 조광조 등 여러 선비들의 소학
에 의한 일상수양의 중시 학풍을 계승하였다. 그 외 주자학이나 성리학
에 대한 일반 유학자로서의 관심을 살필 수 있는 자료가 약간 있다. 대
표적인 것이 일재 이항과의 태극·음양에 대해 논의한 것과 ｢천명도｣의
작성이다. ｢천명도｣는 성리학의 천인합일을 나타내는 도로서 매우 중요
한 것인데, 처음 도를 작성한 추만 정지운과 이를 수정한 퇴계 이황의
그것과 다른 특색을 가지고 있다. 그는 기묘명현의 도학정치를 계승하
여 당대에 요순정치를 실현하려는 큰 포부를 가졌으나 시대적 불운을
만나 정치적으로는 좌절된 선비였으나, 일반 유학자로서 또 자연시인으
로서 당시 호남지방에서 큰 비중을 차지했던 선비였다.

영어 초록

During the early period of the Chosun dynasty in the 16th century,
when Haseo, Kim Inhu lived, the political situation was incongruous
with the implementation of Neo-Confucian ideal politics because the
residue of Sahwa (massacres of scholars) still remained. Haseo tutored a
crown prince who later became Injong (the 12th king of Chosun), but
the king's sudden demise caused him a great deal of heartache and
halted the start of his official career. After that, political affairs were
chaotic because of continuous strife between different political parties,
caused by kin politics, so Haseo abandoned his wish to put
Neo-Confucian ideal politics into effect and retired to the countryside.
Haseo was highly talented as a writer and composed many great
literary works, but he rarely wrote works related to Neo-Confucianism
other than in fragments. However, it is assumed that his works had an
effect on Gobong, Gi Daeseung and Iljae, Yi Hang through the process
of academic exchange in the Honam region. From the beginning of his
studies, Haseo regarded Sohak very highly, so he followed the
academic traditions of various scholars, including those of Jeongam, Jo
Gwangjo who tried to start Neo-Confucian ideal politics in the early
years of the Chosun Dynasty, by putting emphasis on Sohak’s theory of
daily training.
There are also a few extant materials which reveal that Haseo was
interested in the Zhu Xi's thought and Neo-Confucianism in his own
role as a Confucian scholar. The representative examples are the
discussion about Taegeuk (the great ultimate)·yin and yang with Iljae,
and the creation of Cheonmyeongdo (a picture of the Mandate of
Heaven) . Cheonmyeongdo , describing the idea of unification of
Natural Law and Human Norm, is very significant, and it has different
characteristics from the first version of Cheonmyeongdo created by
Chuman, Jeong Jiwoon, and also that by Toegye, Yi Hwang, which was
a modification of Chuman's. Haseo had a great desire to implement
YoSun (the great kings, 'Yo' and 'Sun', in legendary Chinese history)
politics at that time by following Neo-Confucian ideal politics of
Gimyomyeonghyeon (the courtiers who met disaster instigated by
Gimyosahwa in 1519 (the 14th year of King Jungjong’s reign)), but he
became politically discouraged as a scholar because of the political
misfortunes of his time. However, he played a prominent role as a
Confucianist and a nature poet in the Honam region.
