The purpose of this paper analyzes the self-portraits of Frida Kahlo by depending on the
discussions made by Freud and Jung who have recognized the psychotherapeutical effects of

where the person loses the defense and protection mechanisms due to a severe and terrible
experience. The artist portrayed her traumatic experiences and unspeakable pain on her
self-portraits, which has allowed her to escape from the threatening trauma. Furthermore, she
was able to open up the path for communicating with the world through her paintings, which
had allowed her to prevent alienation and separation caused by diseases and disorder.
As a conclusion, the self-portraits as a form of creative art had served as the cause for her
to acquire a new identity through self-analysis, the traumatic stress was pacified through the
chatharsis and sublimation to lead to the recovery of a psychological balance, and bringing about an inner change and transformation by combining the disrupted identity has brought the
opportunity for healing and communication.
