1. 서론<박씨전>은 작자와 연대 미상의 고전소설로 인조 때의 병자호란을 배경으로, 실제 인물이었던 이시백과 그의 아내 박 씨라는 가상의 인물을 주인공으로 하여 여러 가지 이야기를 엮은 서사 문학이다. 남존여비 시대에 여성을 주인공으로 설정한 점과 이시백을 비롯하여 인조, 임경업, 용골대 등 역사적인 실제 인물을 등장시킨 것이 특징이다. 필사본과 활자본이 30여종이나 전해진다는 점에서 당시 매우 인기있었던 소설이었음을 짐작할 수 있다. 이 소설의 대중적 인기의 배경에는 조선 후기 일부 여성 사회에서 일기 시작했던 여성들의 남성 사회에 대한 도전의식과 함께 이민족으로부터의 패배를 극복하기 위한 정신적인 승리의식을 들 수 있다. <박씨전>을 되돌아보면서 등장인물의 특징과 주제의식, 소설사적 의의를 고찰해보려 한다.

2-1. 등장인물의 특징
1) 박씨의 초현실성
<박씨전>에서 박씨와 박처사는 환상 인물로 등장하는데 특히 박씨는 발생하는 모든 환상 사건의 중심에서 사건을 전개시킨다. 천상에서 내려온 선녀인 박씨가 인간과 결혼하여 인간계에서 함께 살아가는 일은 현실계에서는 존재할 수 없는 일로, 박씨는 현실과 천상의 경계를 허무는 환상 인물이다. 박씨의 환상성은 박씨가 천상의 선녀라는 사실 뿐만 아니라 박씨의 아름다운 외모와 경이로운 능력에서도 나타난다.
승상이 놀나 주셔이 본이 과연 절디가인이라. 용모 화려 하고 아리 따온 티도 정정요하여 월궁의 항아 갓튼지라.
