1. Definition of primary ICH
-A syndrome characterized by spontaneous bleeding into substance of the brain.
2. Etiology and Pathology

1)Chronic hypertension
arteriosclerotic changes of small blood vessels, particularly in those branches of the middle cerebral artery -> vessels become weakened
arterosclerotic condition: chronic lower limb ischemia, HTN, insulin-dependent DM receiving oral anticoagulant therapy
2)Cerebral amyloid angiopathy
a cumulation of amyloid β-protein deposits displace collagen and contractile elements -> artery is subject to increased risk of spontaneous rupture
3)An angiomatous malformation(arteriovenous malformation cavernous angioma)
4)The abnormal vessels within high-grade astrocytomas-frequently rupture
Other tumors(lymphoma, meningioma, pituitary tumors,
metastatic tumors)-occasionally rupture
