The disintegration of the family as a basic unit of society is not only a personal

problem, but also a publicized social issue. It brings stress on psychologically, socially,

and behaviorally, and negatively affects on the labour market due to health which is

mentally and physically aggravated. It puts an emotional toll on children and they might

become hostile and have a defiant attitude towards the world. Divorce originates from

economic, social, and personal factors.

To commence, financial strain is one of the issues that cause the separation of

couples. Marrying early without having enough money sometimes tends to create

arguments because they can not buy basic needs such as clothes and food. Consequently,

either member of the couple may not want to have a child. As evidenced from the

handout, “He did not anything but looked at the bags against the wall of the station”

(623). The bag symbolizes a pregnant girl, and it means great responsibility for him.

Furthermore, the unemployment of men also bears emotional instability and unrest, and

uncertainty of the future which creates financial difficulty between couples. Thus, a

material problem can be a cause of divorce.
