In August 2011, Euijeongbu court appealed the constitutionality of Adultery law. The latest review three years ago upheld the law’s constitutionality by a narrow margin, but it is said this time the top court may rule in favor of abolishing the controversial law. For this reason, many people predicted that the Adultery law would be abolished. However, public opinion has been shaken by this month’s case that a Christian pastor was jailed for 18 months for having a decade-long affair with a woman whose wedding he had officiated at. After this case, many people are worried that there is no way to punish those unscrupulous people if the adultery law is abolished. Supporters of the law claim it reduces cases of adultery, while opponents assert an individual’s sexual life should not be subject to criminal law.
