Literature can be a useful subject of psycho-analysis as there is no need to guarantee the anonymity of the subject and it is easy to find an extreme case fit for the analyzation. In this paper “Hamlet” and “A Rose for Emily” would be addressed. Both two works feature a woman who went insane after encountering the death of her patriarchal father. Facing the tragic event, Ophelia from “Hamlet” shows abnormal behaviors, singing songs and handing out flowers to others until drowning herself to death and Emily from “A Rose for Emily” sleeps with a corpse for some forty years.
