This paper aims to understand the phenomenon that Korean English learners face more difficulty in learning English than learning Japanese. In order to understand this comparative difference, this paper analyzes syntactic structures of English, Korean, and Japanese. The sentence structure of English consists of S-V-O, while Korean has S-O-V structures. This structural difference is the main reason that Koreans have difficulty acquiring English as a second language. On the other hand, structural similarities between Korean and Japanese allow Koreans to learn Japanese with relative ease.
<중 략>
In (a), (b), and (c), Korean indicates the SOV structure. In addition, (d) constructs the OSV structure. From the analysis of two sentences Homer is chasing Marge and Homer studied syntax in the library, it is proved that Korean sentence structures form SOV and OSV. This result shows that Korean verbs are always posited at the end of sentences, and it suggests the explicit structural difference between Korean and English.
