I just got back (well, back to Omaha, not Montreal) from being at my grandparents` farm all day. It was nice to see the old place and show my daughter, and to see her face as she pet the pigs ;-) Or, as I call them "unripened bacon." And after forgetting the pre-meal german prayer, to see my grandmother`s pursed lips squeaking out "Ihr Deutsch ist schrecklich" and to reply "Ich bin, ich denke auf franzisch jetzt traurig" and have her reply "Ich schze, daes schlechter sein knte."
I think the last two days have helped get my blood sugars under control. Today I`ve probably had it more under control than I have in at least a month. Grandmother was displeased to see my "thin" frame and fed me chicken and mashed potatoes with gravy for supper, schnitzel and french fries and cole slaw for lunch. We shall not get into the peach pie, sugar butter cookies, and home made vanilla ice cream.
I Am So Full.
In other news, I was traumatized to see every building save the farrowing house (pig nursery) and the main house on the farm destroyed, as well as the erosion proctective grove of fur trees ripped out completely.
"Grandpa! What the hell happened?"
"mmm did your pa forget to tell you



"You ain`t happen to got a cigarette you can spare do ya Wendey?"
Okay, that`s it. When your own Grandfather is bumming smokes off you, you must face the fact you have a serious reputation as a pushover. Must LOSE this cigarette store rep I have!
Grandma wants to know what we want for supper.
My brother wants fresh chicken. Grandmother says fine, but we have to get it ourselves. Her arthritis is acting up. My city bred stepmother looks at us quizzically. "I can run into town and get some." I smirk and assure her my brother and I can handle it.
Once outside and in front of the barn, smoking again of course, we decide we are completely fine with sex role stereotyping and he can kill the damn chickens and I will clean them. It`s not long before he hands me three.
"Can`t you take the damn heads off at least?"
