1. Company Description
McDonald’s began in 1940, with a restaurant opened by brothers Richard and Maurice McDonald in San Bernardino, California. Their introduction of the “Speedee Service System” in 1948 established the principles of the modern fast-food restaurant and now, it is the world’s largest chain of hamburger fast food restaurants, serving more than 58 million customers daily. With the expansion of McDonald’s into many international markets, the company has become a symbol of globalization and the spread of the American way of life.
McDonald’s believes that QSC&V(Quality, Service, Cleanness and Value) will lead it to success and always try to keep this policy. Another interesting facts and figures about McDonald’s and characteristic company policies include the following:
1) A new McDonald’s opens somewhere in the world every eight hours.
2) Two-thirds of the 1,200 to 1,500 new restaurants which the company opens annually are outside the USA.
3) Total sales outside the USA now contribute more than half of company income.
4) Each McDonald’s restaurant employs an average of 50 people, in 25 different jobs.
McDonald’s has started to launch its first Korea restaurant on 20th, July, 2007 and until now, it has continued to grow rapidly in Korea and resulted in growth of fast food industry. Major fast food chains in Korea are currently planning to expand their outlet numbers and diversify their menus.
McDonald’s Korea announced on 23 March that in will increase its number of stores to 500 by 2015(currently 237). Of the new stores, 200 outlets will be drive-through (known as ‘McDrive’) to offer Korean consumers more convenience.
