Why are beer and pubs important in British society?
In many British books or movies , I am sure everyone has seen this word at least once: “pub”. I thought “pub” is a kind of like a bar in our country, but I realized it is not. Pubs are one of most important British culture places and one where people can make social network. People in England can meet their friends, hang out together, eat food, talk with other people, who they do not know, drink beer and relax from heavy load of work in their local pub. Moreover, many pubs in the British Isles can be seen as important parts of history and culture, because some are very old. In short, it is like a “museums” for Britain!
A public house, commonly known as a ‘pub’, the history of pubs can be traced back to Roman times. The origin of pub began to appear in the Roman Age. A pub was originally the place for travelers, as a place where people can offer travelers rest and information about a new road. In 19th century, so many pubs opened in Liverpool and Manchester. Those flourished pubs remind me of a ‘conveyor belt’ that became a drinking factory. About 270000 people visit the largest 14 pubs in London every week, they are always crowded. I think if those customers’ liquidity can be compared to transportation, it would be coming out a train. In other word pubs was a revolution of drink in British culture
