본 연구 목적은 활동 유형에 따른 무용인의 정체성과 은퇴의 의미, 은퇴 기대를 알아보고 예 비 은퇴자들에게 필요한 것은 무엇인가를 탐구하는 것이다. 이를 위해 전문무용수지원센터에서 규정하고 있는‘전문무용수’의 기준에 맞는 직업단체 소속 무용수 4명과 독립무용수 3명을 연구 참여자로 선정하였고, 이는 심층인터뷰, 무용 관련 문헌 연구, 연구노트 작성으로 수집된 자료를 문화기술지 방법을 통하여 분석하였다. 연구 참여자의 정체성은 소속된‘단체의 무용수’,‘무용수’,‘춤꾼’,‘예술인’으로 나타났다. 이들은 무용수를 비롯한 다양한 역할 수행이 가능하고 무용수는 자신의 다양한 역할 중 일부인 것으로 인식하고 있었다. 무용수의 활동이 근로 활동과 예술 활동 중 무엇인지 알아본 결과 활동의 성격, 직접 부딪치 게 되는 예술 감독이나 행정부서와의 관계, 본인의 의지에 따라 그 의미가 다르게 도출되었다. 은퇴 기대 중 1) 은퇴에 대한 생각은 자발적으로 현 직장의 무대를 떠나 퇴사하는 것을 일차 적 은퇴로 보았고, 그 후 무용분야에서의 활동을 지속하다가 은퇴를 맞이할 것으로 예상하고 있 었다. 2) 은퇴 예상 시기는 30대, 40대, 정년, 또는 할 수 있을 때까지로 나타났다. 은퇴 예상 이유로 는 본인의 작품 활동을 하기 위하여, 더 나은 환경으로 이직, 무용단체와 국가를 대표하는 이미 지가 사라지기 전에, 춤이 잘 안될 때, 정당한 대우를 받지 못했을 때로 나타났다. 3) 은퇴 후 계획 및 희망은 안무자나 연출, 교육자이며 은퇴 준비로는 학위 취득, 작품 활동 을 위한 작품 구상 및 인맥 관리와 저축, 지원금 신청을 하고 있었다. 4) 은퇴준비 시 필요한 것으로는 교육자로서의 자질 검증에 있어 학력 외에 보다 실질적인 선 발 기준 설정 및 선발 기회의 확대, 작품 제작 지원사업과 여기에 필요한 교육을 받을 수 있는 기회, 연습 공간을 필요로 하고 있었다. 또한 무용수를 비롯한 예술가에 대한 인식의 전환과 정 당한 대가 지불, 한국무용수로 활동할 수 있는 단체의 설립이 있었다. 본 연구를 토대로 정책 마련의 기본 단위인‘무용인’과‘은퇴’의 의미를 재고하여 보다 실질 적이고 광범위한 무용인 지원 정책 마련이 이뤄져야 할 것이다.

영어 초록

This study aims to look into the identity, meaning of retirement, retirement expectations of dancers according to the types of their activities and what are necessary for preliminary retirees, and reconsider the scope of the meaning of dancers that forms the basics in establishing policies. For the foregoing, this study selected 4 dancers belonging to a vocational organization and 3 independent dancers who satisfy criteria of‘Professional Dancers’ regulated by the Dancersʼ Career Development Center, and carried out in-depth interview and research of dance-related references as well as analysis on the materials collected by the preparation of research note through the method of ethnography. As a result of study, participants’identities were varied as‘a dancer belonging to an organization’,‘dancer’,‘performer’,‘artist’etc. Participants appreciate that they are capable of performing a variety of roles including a dancer, and the role of dancer is just part of oneʼs various roles. As a result of researching about which part dancerʼs activity is appertaining between labor activity and artistic activity, this study found that its meaning varied according to the characteristic of activity, relation with an artistic director of administrative office they personally encounter and oneʼs own will. Of the retirement expectations, 1) Study participants regard volunteered retirement from current work as primary retirement and they anticipate to retire after continuing activities in the field of dance. 2) As for the anticipated times of retirement, participants replied as‘30s’,‘40s’,‘until the time of retirement age’or‘as long as I can’. As to the anticipated reasons for retirement, they replied as‘for oneʼs own work activities’,‘change jobs to a better environment’,‘before my image that represents dance organization and nation vanishes’,‘when I cannot dance well’,‘when I cannot receive fair compensation’etc. 3) As for the plan and hope after retirement, participants want to become a choreographer, producer or educator, and among the preparations for retirement are obtaining a degree, devising a work for their artistic works, human relation management, saving, application for support fund etc. 4) With respect to the necessities in preparing retirement, this study revealed that in verifying qualification as an educator, participants need establishment of more practical selection standard other than academic ability and expansion of selection opportunities, support projects for production of work and an opportunity to receive education necessary for it and a space for dance practices. In addition to the foregoing, they also need change of recognition toward artists including dancers, payment of justifiable compensation and establishment of organizations where they can work as Korean traditional dancers. On the basis of this study, more practical and extensive support policies for dancers shall be established by reconsidering dancers that are the fundamental units in the establishment of policies as well as the meaning of their retirement.
