한국어 초록

상장례는 고대에서 현대에 이르기까지 시대와 장소에 따라 다양하게 행해지는 의례행위이자 축적
된 문화적인 관습이다. 한 민족의 상장례를 살펴보면 당대 사람들의 사생관과 영혼관 등 정신세계를
가늠할 수 있고 사회 문화생활도 알 수가 있다.
필자는 관혼상제 중에서도 상장례가 또 다른 삶의 전환과 새로운 시대의 시작이란 측면에서 박물
관 전시공간에서 어떻게 구현되고 있는지를 사례 분석하고, 상장례 전시의 발전적인 변모 방안을 제
안하고자 한다.
민속계 박물관 상장례 전시 사례분석을 한 결과 첫째, 각각의 민속계 박물관은 상대적으로 수집하
기 쉬운 유형 자료 중심의 오브제를 선호하여 전시하는 경향을 보인다. 둘째, 지역의 특수성과 전문
성을 살린 상장례 전시로의 보완이 필요하다. 셋째, 상장례 무형자산의 전시가 미흡하여 이에 대한
전시 관련자들의 가치 제고가 필요하다. 넷째, 묘제 문화와 관련한 전시 자료 연구가 부족하므로 장
례 관련 장묘 문화에 대한 자료 수집과 전시 연출 방법에 대한 고민이 필요하다. 다섯째, 상장례 스토
리 개발이 필요하다. 각 유물 안에 숨겨진 다양한 이야기를 채집하여 재구성하는 작업을 통해 이야기
콘텐츠가 살아있는 상장례 전시를 만들 필요가 있다.
아울러 사례 분석한 박물관의 상장례 전시 개선 방안으로 지역의 특수성을 살린 상장례 스토리텔
링 수집과 개발이 필요하다. 이는 정신문화 전승을 위한 하나의 실천방법이 될 수 있으며, 이야기가
살아있는 유물은 관람객들의 전시 이해에 대한 흡인력을 높일 수 있기 때문이다. 또한 상장례 교육프
로그램을 개설하여 전시와 인성 교육이 유기적으로 이어지게 함으로써 오늘날 상장례 문화의 의의를
재조명하는 작업이 필요하다.
끝으로 본 연구가 민속계 박물관 현행 상장례 전시에 관심을 갖게 하고, 개선 방향에 대해 고민할
수 있는 동기가 되기를 바라며, 오늘날 상장례 전통문화의 가치와 의의를 재고해보는 계기가 되기를
기대한다.

영어 초록

Funeral is a behavior of rite and also an accumulated cultural custom that have been
conducted for various purposes according to the particular time period and location from
ancient to modern times. Funeral of a particular nation reflects an idea of sociocultural life
and the world of spirit including a view of life and death and the soul of people in
contemporary era.
It is with a purpose to identify where the funeral has been stood in the flow of history
and what it really meant to people among the four ceremonial occasions of coming of age.
In addition, it is also intended to compare how exhibition rooms of museum are realized
in the light of the beginning on the new era and other changes of the life and to ultimately
suggest a developmental measure as to exhibition of funeral.
As a result of the exhibition of funeral at folklore museum, First of all, it is revealed
that each of folklore museums showed a trend of exhibition preferring three-dimensional
objects based on tangible materials that are easily collectable. Secondly, it is required to
supplement an exhibition of funeral that makes the use of distinct characteristics and
expertise in the region. Third, it is needed that people in charge of exhibition should
improve the value of tangible assets of funeral since the exhibition of them is currently
insufficient at remaining folklore museums except Gwangju City Folklore Museum. Fourth,
studies and exhibition resources specifically dealing with the culture of a memorial service
held before the grave in overall are currently insufficient that it is required to contemplate
as to the collection of resource for memorial service culture regarding funeral and
exhibition method. Fifth, it is needed to develop a story of funeral. Collecting various
stories contained in each relics and organizing the exhibition of funeral that is alive with
story contents are worth it.
To make an additional remark, improvement of the funeral museum exhibition case
analysis is as follows. Particularity of the funeral utilizing local collection and there is a
need to develop storytelling. This is a practice for spiritual and cultural traditions can be
a way, the story remains a living understanding of the visitors to the exhibition because
the suction can improve. In addition, it is to be needed a procedure of reexamining the
meaning of funeral culture for today followed by flexibly connection of the exhibition and
personality education followed by establishing an education program of funeral.
At last, it is with an expectation for this study to suggest an issue regarding
currently-held exhibition of funeral at folklore museum, to serve as a motivation for
contemplation of a measure for improvement, and to reexamine the value and meaning of
traditional culture of funeral for today.
