본 연구는 미술활동의 하나인 종이조형활동을 통한 노인집단미술치료가 노인들의
심리·정서적인 면에서 과거, 현재, 미래 간에 조화로운 견해를 형성하게 함으로써 치료자와
대상자, 대상자와 대상자간의 긍정적인 상호 교류를 통해서 자기 통찰을 하도록 돕고, 나아가
자신의 이미지를 시각화하는 특성을 통해 노인들의 삶을 새롭게 재평가하고 재통합하도록
돕고자 프로그램을 실시하고자 한다.

영어 초록

The present study purposed to examine how group art therapy for the elderly through paper modeling
activities affects and improves elders’ self‐integrity, one of developmental tasks to be achieved in the old
age. The measuring tool used in this study was the self‐integrity scale developed by Kim Jeong‐soon
(1988) based on the conceptual frames established by Miller (1963) and Erikson (1963). Collected data were
statistically processed using SPSS11.0. Frequencies and percentages were obtained for examining the subjects’
demographic characteristics, and Mann‐Whitney’s U‐test, was performed to measure the homogeneity of
the experimental group and the control group before the experiment, and the Wilcoxon sign rank test was
performed to analyze how the group art therapy through paper modeling activities affects elders’
self‐integrity. In addition, the contents of each session in the art therapy program were observed, recorded
and audio‐taped, and the group members’ behaviors and the contents of their pictures were analyzed. The
results of this study suggests that the group art therapy through paper modeling activities executed in this
study is effective in enhancing elders’ self‐integrity. In conclusion, for elders suffering from psychological
and social maladjustment in their old age, group art therapy can recover their positive self image and help
them re‐integrate their life and lead a successful old life. Furthermore, we need to make various
approaches to group art therapy.
