한국어 초록

홍수신화는 인류의 재창조를 이야기하는 창조신화이다. 그런데 인류는 재창조되기 위해 죽음이라는 문을 통과해야 한다. 홍수는 바로 이 문의 상징이다. 홍수는 모든 것을 파괴하고 모든 것을 혼돈 혹은 원상태로 되돌리는 파괴적인 힘이다. 그러나 달리 말하면 그것은 자연이 스스로를 조절하는 능동성의 상징이기도 하다. 파괴와 조절의 상징인 홍수신화는 홍수의 원인을 통해 자연과 신, 그리고 인간의 관계를 극명하게 드러낸다.
홍수의 원인이 자연 안에 있을 때 홍수는 우연히 발생한 자연재해일 뿐이다. 거기에는 하등의 필연성이 없다. 홍수의 원인이 신 안에 있을 때도 사정은 유사하다. 홍수는 신들의 싸움이나 알 수 없는 신의 분노, 혹은 악한 신의 악행에서 발생하지만 이때 신은 외재적 신이 아니라 자연 안에 있는 내재적 신이다. 신원인형 홍수신화는 자연원인형 홍수신화의 신화적 변형이다.
인간원인형 홍수신화는 홍수의 원인을 신의 말을 듣지 않을 뿐만 아니라 신을 살해하는 인간, 신성한 땅을 갈아엎거나 식량을 낭비하는 인간의 모습에서 찾는다. 이런 인간의 양태를 잘못으로 인식하는 것은 농경 양식과 무관치 않다. 그러나 여기에는 또 하나의 국면이 있다. 그것은 이 유형의 홍수신화가 인간과 신의 관계, 즉 인간과 자연의 관계에 대한 범례적 기능을 수행한다는 사실이다. 인간의 생존을 위해 자연을 변형시키는 것은 불가피하지만 그것이 지나칠 때 홍수는 모든 것을 처음으로 되돌리는 조절의 능동성을 발휘한다는 사실. 이것이 인간원인형 홍수신화가 말하는 재창조의 비밀이다.
인간원인형 홍수신화가 종교적 목적이나 사회적 규율을 위해 재생산될 때 홍수신화는 다시 변형된다. 홍수의 결과 남매혼이 이뤄지지만 남매혼 자체가 다시 홍수를 부르는 이중의 홍수신화가 만들어지기도 한다. 이는 인간원인형 홍수신화의 특수한 사례이지만 이 변형 안에는 남매혼의 신화적 능동성을 뒤집고 자연의 우연성을 사회적 필연성으로 확정하려는 강력한 도덕의 목소리가 숨어 있다.

영어 초록

The flood myth is the creation myth telling a recreation of mankind. By the way mankind should pass the gate of death to be recreated. Flood is just the symbol of this gate. Flood is the power destroying everything and returning everything to chaos or the original situation. But in other words it is also the symbol of the activity which nature controls itself.
The flood existing as the symbol of destruction and control tells not only through a new creation after the flood, but also through the cause of flood throwing before the flood. The flood myth reveals the relations with nature, god and mankind through the cause of flood. That's because the East-Asian flood myths are finding the cause in nature, god and mankind.
When the cause of flood is in nature, the flood is just an accidental nature disaster. There is no necessity in it. Human beings get absentminded in front of the sudden violence of nature. It is also similar when the cause of flood is in god. The flood originates through the struggles between gods, unknown anger of god or evil conduct of bad god but the flood is just the violence of nature because that god is the immanent god existing in nature, nature itself. This god-cause type flood myth is a transformation of the nature-cause type flood myth.
When the cause of flood is in mankind, the flood escapes contingency and meet with an agricultural production mode. The mankind-cause type flood myth finds the cause of flood in figures of mankind not hearing god's word , killing god, plowing a divine field out or wasting food. To regard these as fault is to relate with agricultural form. But here is another aspect. That's the fact this kind of flood myth performs the function of example to the relation between mankind and god, in other words between mankind and nature. To change nature for the existence of mankind is necessary. But when it's excessive, flood acts the activity of control returning everything into the first. That's the secret of recreation which the mankind-cause type flood myth is referring.
When the flood myth telling that its cause is the fault of mankind is recreated for the religious purpose or social rule, the flood myth is changed again. Double flood myth that brother and sister's marriage results from flood and again brother and sister's marriage itself is responsible for flood is made. This is a special case of the mankind-cause type flood myth, but in this transformation a strong moral voice turning over the mythological activity of brother and sister' marriage and confirming the contingency of nature to the social necessity is hidden.
