Introduction
When searching for White Noise in a dictionary, it means all sounds including audio frequency. It is an electronic sound that cannot convey any meaning because it produces all sounds at the same time. Then why did Don DeLillo choose White Noise as the title? It doesn’t seem that it has no meaning. Rather it seems that it pretends not to exist. Although noise exists, nobody cannot see or feel the noises. Therefore, “white” can mean a vacancy. At the same time, Don DeLillo chose the word, noise, not sound. Noise makes people feel negative. That is, there is an existence that people cannot see but continuously affects to them.
Unconscious Noise
As cars slowed to a crawl and stopped, students sprang out and raced to the rear
doors to begin removing the objects inside; the stereo sets, radios, personal computers;
small refrigerators and table ranges; the cartons of phonograph records and cassettes;
the hairdryers and styling irons; the tennis rackets, soccer balls, hockey and lacrosse sticks,
bows and arrows……(3)
