Text 1 (a), The House on Mango Street “My Name” by Sandra Cisneros and text 1 (b) “How a Girl Got Her Chinese Name” by Nellie Wong are both about Names, which has similarities and differences in structures, images (literary devices), language dictions, tones, and themes.
There are some similarities and differences in structures between text 1 (a) and (b). The similarity is, both of text 1 (a) and (b) has different events in each paragraph/stanza. Text 1 (a) for instance, the event flows from meaning of narrator’s name, origin of narrator’s name (about her grand mother) to narrator’s personal thought, which shows the dissatisfaction of her own name. Similarly, the event of text 1 (b) flows from speaker’s house and school to personal thought, which leads to dissatisfaction as well.
