. Purpose
In this experiment, pigments are separated from leaves to obtain Rf value of each pigment. Moreover, we will find out the maximum absorbance of chlorophyl a and b by drawing graphs.
Discussion
The original results represent the xanthophyll traveled farther than carotene. However, since carotene is more orange than xanthophyll, the positions of carotene and xanthophyll were judged to have been reversed in the results. Therefore, I switched the positions of the two. The difference in the rate of flow depends on photosynthetic pigments can be described by the principle of chromatography and molecular structure of the pigments. Chromatography separates the sample while the solvent moves along the paper.
