Introduction
This Response paper mainly aims to react to the article “Korean–Chinese Migrant Workers and the Politics of Korean Nationalism” and to argue on the rising dilemma with overseas Korean and the Republic of Korea’s further policies toward overseas Korean. Korean society is already running toward a multicultural society, not a mono-ethnic one. To cope with social issues that have not been experienced as a single nation-state, it is necessary to ensure the boundaries between the nation and the citizens by solving the problems we already have with overseas Koreans and not differentiating them from other foreigners. Otherwise, Korean society will have a constant conflict between ethnically Korean and those who are not. As a multicultural society, the most reasonable way for Korea to adjust to globalization in the 21st century is to abolish the Overseas Koreans Act altogether, and I would like to cite several reasons. But first, I will introduce Byoungha Lee, Jun Young Choi, and Jungmin Seo’s article “Korean–Chinese Migrant Workers and the Politics of Korean Nationalism”.
