-The G20 recognizes the urgency of measures to prevent and reduce marine waste to mitigate the economic costs and effects of marine waste, while emphasizing its direct relationship to environmental, human health, economic development, social welfare, biodiversity and food security issues, and encouraging national and regional measures to reduce them. They approved the G20 Action Plan, adopted in Hamburg, Germany in 2017. In addition, through UNEP's global partnership on marine waste, a voluntary global network has been established as a G20 platform to handle marine waste.
