Introduction
When I was studying topic 2 molecular biology, I was fascinated by how things such as liver and potato can work as enzyme catalysts. I then figured out that enzymes, that are found in animals, catalyze the decomposition of hydrogen peroxide (H₂O₂) reaction in the blood. In the body, H₂O₂is secreted by white blood cells to defend against pathogens and our body decomposes H₂O₂ with the help of catalysts. So I realized how much this reaction and enzymes are significant in our lives. Furthermore, I found out that oxygen gas produced by decomposition with catalase is used to preserve eggs. (GMO Compass) This oxygen gas is used by glucose oxidase in egg products to catalyze the acidification of glucose, and glucose in the egg products leads to browning. (Tucker) Regarding how much this reaction is important, it caught my interest because I eat egg products every day.
