1. Object
1) To understanding the principle of distillation
2) Separate two different liquid which are water and methanol by using distillation column
3) Estimating the theoretical number of theoretical plate and efficiency using McCabe-Thiele method, then calculate optimum reflux ratio.
1. Theory
1) Vapor pressure
Some of the molecules which has weak molecular force in the surface become gaseous. Condensation occurs in which a part of the evaporated gas loses energy and becomes a liquid state again. If evaporation occurs in this way, a process is repeated where some liquid molecules become a gaseous state, and a process in which a part of the gas molecules in the gaseous state come back into a liquid state again. When enough time goes, the velocity of condensation and evaporation would be same. That state is called dynamic equilibrium, and the pressure of gas in that state is vapor pressure.
