Renoir's painting Bal du moulin de la Galette did not care about neat contours and drawings, and he did not rely on clear outlines, but he made the shapes with vivid colors only and the painting looks very free and lively. In Renoir's oeuvre, there are many works of ordinary people enjoying a leisurely, dream-like time with friends, family, and lovers in their daily lives. According to Gombrich, Renoir wants to conjure up “the gay medley of bright colors and to study the effect of sunlight on the whirling throng … the picture looks ‘sketchy’ and unfinished. Only the heads of some figures in the foreground are shown with a certain amount of detail, but even they are painted in the most unconventional and daring manner” (Gombrich 400). His work contains the pleasant moments of everyday life and the people who live in pursuit of happiness. Lively paintings delight the eye of the viewer and have a positive mind to life.
