Optical Illusion
Optical illusion or also called visual illusion refers to phenomena when objects are perceived differently from the actual reality. In normal circumstances, when we view or look at an object, information based on what we observe will travel through circuits of neurons starting in the retina and ultimately to the prefrontal cortex by passing through thalamus and visual cortex, where the information gets processed in multiple stages. Here, prefrontal cortex is the region of the brain that plays a role in decision making such as responses corresponding to a given stimulus. Yet, information based on observation will not always stay on this normal track. In certain cases, information is sent back because some neurons reverse from their usual forwarding path during secondary information processing in the visual cortex. Many researchers believe that this phenomenon could alter the information sent to the prefrontal cortex.
