Follower Characteristics and Task Characteristics have impact on the way a leader’s behavior influences followers’ motivation. Follower Characteristics are determined how a leader’s behavior is interpreted by followers in given work context. Researchers have focused on followers’ needs for affiliation, preferences for structure, desires for control, and self-perceived level of task ability. Path-goal theory predicts that followers have strong needs for affiliation prefer supportive leadership because friendly and concerned leadership is a source of satisfaction.
