F. Scott Fizerald’s ‘The Great Gatsby’ can be one of the greatest works in the world, and it will be the good chance know the 1920s’ America society from this work which he attempted to show the ‘Lost of American Dream’.
American dream means American equality and social success whoever can make in America society. However because of ‘the wave of Industrial Revolution’ and ‘American Civil War’, American dream became more and more collapsed. In ‘The Great Gatsby’ by F. Scott fitzerald, it showed doubtful prospect about bright future as well as the narrow confrontation between materialism and idealism in America. It was showed in the novel’s regional background called as ‘West Egg’ and ‘East Egg’, which symbolized American east and west area.

The Valley of Ashes
: Fitzerald wants to show modern civilization and social situation in ‘The Valley of Ashes’ by using imagination. The scattered dust means the powerless human’s depravity because of social conditions. The broken dust is the source which makes Gatsby’s dream fade out.
