Basically transmission allows power to be sent from engine or motor to a drive mechanism.
For example, when you go up hill by bicycle if you change the lower gear then you can go up easily.
Also at the plane road that you can ride faster as same amount of pedal.
Otherwise the car needs large power that it start from stop state but it needs small power when it running at the plane road.
Although it has a same speed, it needs larger power at the uphill road than plane road.
So, transmission makes it possible. It makes wanted rpm and torque through different gear.
In other words, Torque and rpm of the gears rotated each other are changed by the ratio of connected gear size.
Following this mechanism of the gear, the role of transmission is to transfer the rpm and torque from engine to wheels.
The most common types transmission are manual and automatic.
